Interviews- Dominate Fightwear

DOMINATE FIGHTWEAR

MMA KO  How did Dominate Fight Wear originally get started?

DMN8It started with our love for MMA. Myself and four friends ( Josh, Wes, Steve, Don, Adonis ) would watch the events and then talk about it at work. Well the talking was getting to seem like it wasn't enough, there had to be something that we could be doing to be more involved with the sport that we loved. Perhaps something that we could even make money doing. All of us have some type of Martial Arts background or would like to start training, but that really wouldn't have helped us out as a whole. A bunch of ideas got kicked around untill we came up with Dominate Fightwear.

MMA KO  Who gave you your first break?

DMN8Our first leg up was given to us by James Grunsky who does The Warrior's Cup (Stockton Arena) out of Stockton, CA. The first time that ever talked to him, for about 2 hours, he gave me alot of information about how things work and how to go about certain aspects in this industry. James was very helpful and gave us our first booth in exchange for putting up flyers/posters for the event. For us being newbies this was great. What we have found out since, is  that this industry is, for the most part, one big family. That's something that you can't say very often.

MMA KO  Was it hard to get fighters to sponsor at the beginning?

DMN8 Suprisingly, no, which is funny to say now. I remember when we first started we were thinking "How the F@*Kare we going to get fighters to wear our gear?". In the begining we would take anyone that said they were a fighter, now we actually check them out to determine, business-wise, if it makes sense to sponsor them. We get emails from all over the USA about possible sponsorship, we even get emails from other countries.

MMA KO Who do you sponsor now?

DMN8We currently have about 15 fighters from Oregon to Florida. Localy we sponsor JC Cearley, Bobby Cearley, Steve Heath, Steve Hernandez, David Tosi. We have relationships (concerning fighters) from two gyms, the Stockton Fight Club-Stockton, CA, and the Red Neck Militia-John Day, Oregon. We have Joe Cronin out of Arizona, Jack Montgomery out of Nevada, Adam McEndree out of Ohio. We are constantly "in talks" with fighters about sponsorship. Fighters from the SFC are Jesse Cantu, Mark Cantu, Junior, and Hathiem Arrijio. Fighters from the RNM are Keith Hutchinson, Will Hunt, Ty Sharp, Jeff Harmon, and I think there are two new guys.

MMA KO  What was the first MMA show Dominate Fight Wear ever was a part of?

DMN8 Our first show with a booth was The Warrior's Cup, last year.

MMA KO What do you think of other MMA shows?

DMN8A lot of the local "club" events are good. Some are obviously better than others, while most continually get better. One big reason for that is the recent explosion of MMA into CA (legally). Everyone is a fighter or a promoter now. Most events are put on by new promoters, who are just starting out and don't have the capital or the connections to put on big shows. Besides the Warrior's Cup, one show you need to see, you will know their name, is Cage Combat Fighting Championships-CCFC. They are out of Santa Rosa, CA and every show has been bigger and better. Their next event is on May 12th, at the Sonoma county fairgrounds, Santa Rosa, CA-see you there!

MMA KO Who in the fight industry inspires you?

DMN8 Dana White, because of his drive, determination, and vision. I believe that if Dana had not stepped into the UFC when he did, it would not be what it is today.
I want to say that all of the up-n-coming fighters inspire us, well all fighters but them in particular. The reason being the amount of time and dedication that most of them have to put in to train and fight. I know from doing this business (with a full time job, family, friends, etc., did I mention family?), that time IS valuable, and nothing comes cheap. A newer fighter does not make anything from fighting, considering the costs of training, gear, hotels, transportation, state required licensing and medical tests. The love of the sport and the warrior within is the fuel that drives them to continue their quest to Dominate.

MMA KO  What is your main short term and long term goals?

DMN8Our main short term goal, right now, is to keep growing DMN8. More gear, more fighters, more models, it's a step-by-step process. As far as our long term goals....umm. We would like to get into more extreme sports, we like AMA, stunt bikes, and well bikes. There are other avenues in the fight industry that we want to pursue, I'm just not going to elaborate at the moment.

MMA KO  What would you like to see change in MMA?

DMN8I don't think that there really needs to be any changes at the moment. I do however think that with the rapid growth of the sport, both as a whole and in the new markets, there is some concerns. One big concern is with the amount of new promoters getting into MMA, solely to make "big bucks". Quality of the shows and fighter saftey needs to be a the forefront-not their bottom line. Another area is that of getting to big to fast, like any industry, if the market gets to saturated people will lose interest.

MMA KO  Do you have a Dominate Models?

DMN8Libby Christina is presently our lead DMN8 girl, and you will be seeing more of her very soon. We are always looking for hot girls, hell who isn't? We have product shoots and booth girls (events) coming up. Something else that we are real excited about is our first Dominate calendar, shhh don't tell anyone. We will probably need about 10-12 girls for this project. It will be a 14 month calendar available around the end of summer '07.

MMA KO How can a Hot Model become a Dominate girl?

DMN8 Any girls interested in being DMN8 girls, or just for selected opportunities, should send their pictures and personal info to info@dmn8.tv The pics need to include a close-up of the face and a couple of full body ( one showing the front, side, and back views) shots in bikinis or similar clothing.

MMA KO What is the one thing you want people to know about Dominate Fight Wear?

DMN8We are MMA fans first, business men second. We started Dominate Industries because we love the sportand hope to make a living doing something we love. We did not start a business based on profit and pick MMA as our target.

MMA KO  Is there anyone you would like to thank?

DMN8We would like to thank our families for being so supportive and understanding. We would like to thank all our fighters for supporting and representing DMN8. We would like to thank: Libby Christina, Todd and Tully from CCFC, James Grunsky from The Warrior's Cup, Max Muscle, Shingu Academy, Stockton Fight Club, Red Neck Militia, Fred Lewis, and a bunch more that I'm probably forgetting-sorry. Oh yeah, MMAKO for this opportunity and more in the future.

MMA KO Any thing you would like to say in closing?

DMN8 Our use for the definition of Dominate implies nothing sadistic, or sexual, merely to be at the top of your game (or to make the game yours). To imppose your will on the situation at hand. It applies inside the ring/cage, and outside in life.
100% should be the minimum that you bring. When you work-work hard. When you play-play hard. When you train-train hard. AND when you fight-go full force, or stay the f**k at home!!

MMA KO  I have one more question, who will win? Chuck Liddell or Quinton Jackson?

DMN8 The Iceman.Chuck is truely at the top of his game. Rampage seems a little uncomfortable in the UFC at present. I think he could have greatly benefited from a few more fights before he gets into the cage with Chuck. Here's the thing with MMA though, you never know. Anyone has a puncher's chance. Who would have ever thought that Serra would be the one to take out GSP!
