MMA-KO: First off great to have you back to
MMAKO.org
JS: Yea no problem
MMA-KO: how does it feel to be the first
welterweight champion in Elite XC?
JS: It feels really good just because you
know I feel like I am the number one contender there for a
while you dominated all my fights I was suppose to fight for
it several times but to go out there and finally get it was
nice something I plan on holding for awhile
MMA-KO: Fighting Nick Thompson with a 36 and
9 record did you see him as your toughest opponent yet?
JS: I new he would be tuff but I wasn’t
looking past him at all but I fought a lot of tuff guys
Hayato Mach Sakurai, Dave Menne, Mike Payl, Carlos Condit
Yushin Okami the list goes on my whole list of fighters my
record not bad at all they are pretty much all tuff guys so
I thought Nick Tompson was tuff but wasn’t my toughest
fighter
MMA-KO: What’s the chances they get GSP and
you to fight?
JS: I would love to fight GSP I am hoping
some day down the road that will happen he’s been looking
awesome but aw right realistically its a couple of fights
off me being in elite and him in UFC but if I keep winning
and he keeps winning ideationally that fight is going to
have to happen one way or an other I am looking to be the
best In the world I love being in Elite XC champ but I want
to make sure I am the true world champ and until I fight GSP
I cant say that
MMA-KO: The rumor of UFC buying Elite XC what
do you know about that ?
JS: It’s the first time I heard that actually
I don’t know if there is any truth to the rumor its all
internet rumors I don’t go on the internet looking up fights
that much so sometimes I am out of the loop UFC has bought a
few things like WEC and Pride it’s a possibility Elite XC
seems to be doing well but you never do know.
MMA-KO: Does that have something to do with
Gary Shaw re-signing?
JS: Yea those are unconnected the re-signing
of Gary Shaw if there is any truth to that at all I can see
that being unrelated.
MMA-KO: Do you know who and when you are
fighting again?
JS: I am fighting Paul Daly Oct 4th on CBS
MMA-KO: Where are you training out of now?
JS: Freestyle Submission Academy over in Daly
city I am the head instructor over there I teach there and
over at Cesar as well and there is a spot in down town San
Francisco where I do my kick boxing
MMA-KO: Can anyone come in and train with the
specialist’s Jake Shields
JS: Yea its open to the public you know we
have pro fighters we also have lots of beginners and
intermitted people trying to learn the fight and people just
trying to do jujitsu for fun as well we have all kinds of
skill level there. We have our serious pros but the majority
of the people are there doing it for fun
MMA-KO: Is there anyone you like to thank
JS: I like to thank Gilbert Melendez , Nick
Diaz, Nate Diaz, Cesar Gracie, my boxing coach Tareq and
everyone that help me get ready for the fight
MMA-KO: On behalf of MMA KO, I want to thank
you for taking the time to do this interview. |
