HORN FIGHTS TO DEFEND WORLD TITLE AT SOARING EAGLE ON SATURDAY

When Jeremy Horn steps into the cage at Soaring Eagle Casino’s mixed martial arts event on Saturday, July 10, it will be his 109 MMA fight as a professional.

HORN KO’S FORREST GRIFFIN WITH A KICK

Known as one of the best grapplers in the sport, Horn – or Gumby as he’s known by his fans – has an amazing 84 wins. He has beaten such MMA stars as Forrest Griffin, Vernon White, Gilbert Yvel, Chael Sonnen (three times), Dean Lister and Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell.

His career has crisscrossed the globe and includes 11 fights inside the famed UFC Octagon. Yet, it was a loss that put Horn firmly on the MMA map.

His first fight for the UFC came against champion Frank Shamrock. Horn was just 22 at the time. He was 9-2 and full of promise.

"We knew Jeremy was special," manager Monte Cox said. "We knew he could do something in this sport, but we needed a test. Even though he lost in extra time he proved to everyone that, at 22, he would be a name to watch for a long, long time."

Cox proved prophetic.

Horn would go 25-1-1 over his next 27 bouts, fight 10 more times in the Octagon, gain a worldwide following and an insider’s respect not often found in the sport.

And, now, the next step will be taken -- this time against another UFC veteran in Sean Salmon (18-10) in defense of Horn’s IFC World Middleweight title.

"My goal for my career has always been to keep moving forward, to keep pushing to where I’m fighting at the highest levels I can," Horn said. "All I can do is go out and compete and do what I do."

"For Jeremy," Cox said "it’s still about getting better and finding a new challenge. Salmon brings a set of skills to this fight that make for a good challenge for Jeremy."

Also headlining the night will be top heavyweights Mike Whitehead (24-7) and Chase Gormley (9-2) out of the renowned Black House MMA camp that includes Anderson Silva, Antonio Nogueira, Paulo Filho, Lyoto Machida, Junior Dos Santos and other great fighters. .

Horn -- who spent most of his career with the Miletich Fighting Systems team in Iowa, and is now training in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the team that he created, Elite Performance – says one thing is most likely for certain about his fight on Saturday.

"At some point I’ll look to take him down and from there is will be a matter of finishing the fight on my terms. That’s always the goal," he said.

Other fights on the scheduled 11 fight card include Amanda LaVoy against Karina Hallinan, local favorites Chad Herrick vs. Cincinnati’s Tim Ruberg and Jason Holmes vs. Rockport, Illinois’ Rob Morrow. The action all starts at 8 pm on Saturday, July 10 at the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort in Mt. Pleasant, MI. Tickets start at only $30. Tickets are available online thru www.soaringeaglecasino.com  or by calling 1-800-585-3737.
