September
11, 2010 in Beverly Hills, CA. The Playboy Fights were an action
packed night to remember! As the first bell rang, we started our
night with four MMA fights that were too exciting to turn away from.
I have been to many shows, and have seen boring fights on some of
those
fight cards, but all of the fights at the Playboy Mansion were
exciting and action packed. Not one boring fight all evening.
The first fight was Leo Kuntz (4-1,4 K.O.s)
out of Linden, ND going against Bobby Taylor (0-2) of San Francisco,
CA. Kuntz was too much for Bobby Taylor . Taylor was having a
difficult time with the ropes, falling through and sustaining a
minor injury, though still able to fight. Kuntz controlled the fight
and got Bobby to the mat starting to ground and pound. As the
referee broke it up Taylor threw a punch, not listening to the
official, and as a result was disqualified. Kuntz wins 1 minute 22
seconds into the second round due to the disqualification.
The
second fight of the night was Germaine De Randamie from The
Netherlands, a kick-boxer at one time, De Randamie had a 41-0 record
with 29 K.O.s, coming into MMA at 0-1, she was facing a very tough
opponent in Nicole Johnson (1-1) out of Roseville Ca. This fight was
filled with action, as Nicole took a beating for three full rounds
from Germaine. Germaine's knees were just amazing and she landed so
many knees one would think the fight was going to be stopped, but
the tough Nicole
took the punishment and lost an unanimous decision, as Germaine got
her first
win in MMA.
The third fight of the night was Derek
Boyle (4-4, 3 K.O.s), fighting out of Lethbridge, Canada, going up
against Tim Welch (3-1, 2 K.O.s), out of Missoula, MT. This fight
was a stand up war, and one of the best fights of the night. They
beat each other up for three full rounds with it going to the score
cards, and Derek Boyle winning by split decision moving his record
to 5-4 in MMA.
The final MMA fight of the night was Nick
Hinchliffe out of BC, Canada, with a record of 15-6, seven by knock
out, going up against Daniel McWilliams (7-14, 1 K.O.) out of
Palmdale, CA. McWilliams was not in the same league as Nick who
ended this fight quickly, and in easy fashion. Nick was able to land
some great shots as he got Daniel to the ground and was able to sink
in a Guillotine Choke
:54 seconds in the opening round. We move to boxing, which I never
experienced live, and it was amazing to watch!
The
first bout were Welterweights, as Willie Nelson (14-0, 9 K.O.s) out
of Cleveland, OH faced Joshua Marks (7-2, 7 K.O.s) out of El Centro,
CA. Willie had too much of a reach advantage over Joshua Marks, and
controlled the fight, knocking him down in the 3rd round. Joshua was
able to recover, but could never overcome that reach. Nelson gets
the unanimous decision over Joshua moving Willie Nelson to 15-0.
Second
Boxing bout of the night was a Light-Heavyweight bout scheduled for
six rounds. K.O. of the night in my opinion, had Sergey Kovalev
(8-0, all by K.O.) out of Chelyabinsk, Russia facing Kia Daniels
(6-5, 4 K.O.s) out of Louisville, KY. It was just amazing to watch
the K.O. power from Sergey, who will be something spectacular in the
boxing world, knocking out Kia at one minute fifty eight seconds of
the first round. Sergey’s power was too much for the game Kia who
went down
twice in the first round. Sergey moves his record to 9-0 with all
wins via knockout.
The Main Event was just an amazing 6 round
slug-fest as two Super-Flyweights went crazy and slugged it out like
the Barrera and Morales wars. Adrian Hernandez (18-1, 11 K.O.s) out
of Toluca, Mexico is the NABF Jr. Flyweight Champion, and the WBC #1
Jr. Flyweight Contender. Adrian was facing Jose Luis Cardenas (6-10,
3 K.O.s) out ofSanta Ana, CA. What a war these two put on, as I
believe Jose was hurt badly in round two, and wobbled to his stool,
yet continued to fight four more rounds, and slug it out, still out
on his feet. It was the best boxing fight of the night, having
the crowd on their feet chanting for Jose to come back, but Adrian
was too much
to handle that night, winning easily with an unanimous decision over
Cardenas.
It was a sold out, action-packed night of
fights. I spoke to Christian Printup, who said he had worked very
hard to get the best fights possible, and he did, every fight was
exciting and I could not miss a single moment. Hot ring girls,
Playboy Bunnies, an open bar, and celebrities. What morecould one
ask for in an experience I will never forget!
