Bay Area fighter Anthony
"Rumble" Johnson undergoes surgery By Phil
Lanides
San
Jose welterweight Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (8-3) was scheduled to
face John “Doomsday” Howard at the UFC Live on Versus event on March
21st in Colorado. Their rivalry has grown to become quite personal,
as trash talk has passed back and forth between the two competitors.
As a result, the fight had become quite anticipated. Unfortunately,
Johnson sustained an injury to his knee and had to pull out of the
bout.
Johnson’s manager, Ken Pavia of MMA Agents, confirmed to MMAWeekly
that Johnson was forced to have surgery recently. “He will be
unstoppable when he gets back,” said Pavia. “(He) had the issue for
years, but hurt it bad now. Not a real bad injury.” He will be out
of training and action for approximately a month.
This is another setback for “Rumble,” as he was defeated recently by
fellow Bay Area welterweight Josh Koscheck. Now he will have to look
elsewhere to get back on the winning track. But with the animosity
between Johnson and Howard very real, look for these two to settle
their differences at some point.
