Bobby Lashley fight in jeopardy?

Story by Phil Lanides

First, he has an opponent. Then, he doesn’t have an opponent. And now, he does…perhaps. Completing the Bobby Lashley matchup for “StrikeForce: Miami” has had more ups and downs than a solid WWE storyline.

Originally, Lashley (4-0) was supposed to face Yohan Banks (2-1), but the Florida State Boxing Commission deemed the matchup “not competitive.” In steps globe-traveling veteran Jimmy “The Titan” Ambriz (14-12-1), who the Commission officially approved, but StrikeForce is apparently not satisfied. According to MMAJunkie, “bout agreements have not been distributed for the fight. Additionally, one source close to the negotiations said, ‘I don't think it's going to happen.’”

What will happen? Will Lashley be shifted to a later card, with Joe Riggs vs. Jay Hieron taking its place on the televised portion of the event? Will the fight between Lashley and Ambriz simply take place? With less than two weeks till the event, time is of the essence…we’ll see how StrikeForce responds.

On a related note, Lashley was advertised to wrestle last night on the “Genesis,” TNA Wrestling’s latest PPV offering. As reported by Sacramento Pro Wrestling Examiner Rick Rockwell, Lashley was “injured” by his opponent backstage before the event, and another wrestler took his place. I concur with Rockwell in maintaining that this is a smart move, as Lashley getting injured would do nothing to help TNA, StrikeForce, or Lashley himself.
