Gladiator Challenge recently spoke with big-time featherweight
prospect "Useless" Ulysses Gomez. He will be taking on Chino
Nicholas at December 3rd's Tachi Palace Fights event, "The Brawl in
the Hall." Gomez is an interesting young athlete with a bright
future. Check out the GC website for the full interview:
Phil Lanides: Where do you train?
Ulysses Gomez: I split time between Marc Laimon?s Cobra Kai and Ken
Hahn?s Striking Unlimited
PL: Who are some of the guys you train with?
UG: We have lots of good wrestlers and grapplers at Cobra Kai, guys
like Johny Hendricks and Shane Roller. I?ve also worked with Phil
Baroni, Kendall Grove, and Rude Boy. I've been b lessed!
PL: What's your top strength as a fighter?
UG: Jiu-jitsu is my forte, but I?ve learned a lot about striking. At
my base, I am a submission guy, though.
PL: What is your favorite submission?
UG: Ha...whatever I tap a guy with, that?s my favorite at that time.
But getting the choke is easiest to get, so I love the rear-naked
choke.
PL: On December 3rd, you will tangle with Chino Nicholas. Do you
know anything about him?
UG: I?ve seen a few of his fights online, and his nickname is
?Scrappy? or something like that. So I know he?s going to bring it
and put on a show.
PL: What's your game-plan for the fight?
UG: No game-plan; that doesn?t usually work out for me. Prepare for
the worst, expect the best, and hope it falls somewhere in between.
