On August 22nd, Gladiator Challenge Heavyweight Champion Dave
Huckaba will defend his title against MMA legend Dan "The Beast"
Severn. Severn, a UFC Hall of Famer, has built one of the most
unique careers in combat sports, with a very decorated amateur
career to go along with his near 100 MMA victories. His domain is
the ground, and he rarely strays far from that area. Huckaba, on the
other hand, is a stand-up fighter known for his devastating strikes.
Nine of his eleven victories have come via TKO/KO, and he does have
big-fight experience. But he's never stepped into the cage against
someone with the level of experience that "The Beast" has. It's not
clear who will win, but it's very clear what the game plan for each
fighter wil l be.
Severn is going to look to utilize his world-class ground game to
take Huckaba down and keep him there. He'll look to submit him, or
drop heavy hands from the top position. Huckaba, meanwhile, is going
to look to keep the fight standing, where he will try to put the
legend to sleep with his hands. Its a classic striker versus
grappler match-up, and the outcome will depend on who can impose
their will on who.
It's a fight that is gaining a lot of attention and buzz, and
rightfully so. Regardless of who walks out with the belt, it should
be a great, exciting fight, and fight fans in attendance will be
treated to a memorable event.
