Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal Cast
Removed- Ready to Fight

PRESS RELEASE (January 31, 2012)- After a disappointing loss during
his Strikeforce Title Fight against Gilbert Melendez on December
17,
2011, Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal finally gets his cast removed after
injuring the ligament in his right hand during the first round of
the
fight.
Shortly after the fight, Masvidal's management team notified his
fans
and the media that he indeed reinjured his hand during the first
round
forcing him to rely on his left jab for the majority of the five
round
fight. Masvidal had originally injured his hand approximately 10
days
prior to the fight during an intense sparring session, but refused
to
pull from the fight. “I went in there and gave it my all, but I
couldn't punch or grip anything,” said Masvidal.
Committed to keeping his fans informed of his progress, Masvidal's
cast was removed late last week after 4 weeks of healing. “The
doctor
has indicated the hand looks good,” said Tina Vidal, Masvidal's
manager. “Masvidal is now receiving physical therapy to gain his
hand
strength back, but he's ready to fight again.”
Ms. Vidal confirmed the doctor indicated Masvidal's right hand was
only at 25% of its normal capacity when he arrived to his office 4
weeks ago. “He should be at almost 100% in the next 10 days,”
indicated Vidal.
When asked what is next, Masvidal replied, “I'm a work horse. I
hate
sitting out on the sidelines. I just want to fight. I will take
anything Strikeforce, Scott Coker and Sean Shelby throw at me until
I
get the chance to fight Gilbert again. I just want to get back in
the
cage.”
A Cuban American from Miami, FL, Masvidal got his start as a street
fighter under Kimbo Slice garnering millions of views on YouTube
for
his backyard fights. Currently holding a record of 22-7, Masvidal
is
well known as a backyard brawler and has worked hard to shed that
street fighting image. Heckled continuously by the crowd at
Melendez
vs. Masvidal for being “nothing but a street thug” Masvidal said,
“If
that is the way people want to look at me, I don't care. I've been
fighting professionally for over 8 years. I've beaten some of the
best
in my weight class and I will continue to pound through every guy
put
in front of me until I can face Gilbert again. I've been pretty
controlled in my recent fights, fighting more technically than
anything else, trying to get points but not always finishing my
opponents. If the crowd really wants to see a street thug in the
cage-
that is exactly what I'm going to give them.”
“We are working with Strikeforce currently to put Jorge on a card
as
soon as possible,” said Vidal. “He's ready to go and we don't want
him
sitting idle for any long period of time. He's like a caged lion
right
now- he needs to be set free to do what he does.”
