IFC WARRIORS CHALLENGE 27 SET FOR MARCH 27 AT GOLD COUNTRY

January 25, 2010 – GOLD COUNTRY CASINO, OROVILLE, CA – The popular IFC WARRIORS CHALLENGE MMA series returns to Gold Country Casino with its 27th edition on Saturday, March 27 beginning at 4:00 PM.

The nine bout fight card includes two championship fights, a four-man light heavyweight tournament and a female special attraction. In the main event for the vacant IFC Warriors Challenge Heavyweight Championship, DAVE HUCKABA takes on RICHARD BLAKE in a bad blood match that has been brewing for three years. With over 30 fights between them, this heavyweight clash pits the boxing background of Huckaba against Blake’s kickboxing pedigree, and each man promises a knockout of the other.

For the IFC Native American Welterweight Championship, AARON HEDRICK, member of the Tyme Maidu Tribe of the Berry Creek Rancheria, will face off against BILLY CAROTHERS, member of the Yurok Tribe, in a rematch. Hedrick won their first encounter after a long, hard-fought battle via submission at Warriors Challenge 23.

The four-man light heavyweight tournament features fighters from the region’s top four MMA schools. In the first preliminary bracket, Cesar Gracie’s ROY BOUGHTON, winner of the Gracie Open, will fight Team Voodoo’s GEORGE INTERIANO. In the second bracket, Team Orsua’s MIKE SKIDMOREcompetes against Team Stand Alone’s JEREMY ROSALES. Both of these men have a deep history that started on the wrestling mats in high school, and no doubt they are looking to settle the score in the IFC cage. Due to possible injury, there will also be one alternate tournament bout to be named at a later date.

“The tradition of single day tournaments is still very much alive in the IFC,” says IFC Senior Vice President Paul Smith. “Fighters and fans alike love the tournament format and this one should definitely provide fireworks to rock Gold Country.” In fact, fans love the tournaments so much that the IFC Warriors Challenge series has sold out its last four stops at Gold Country.

The undercard features COREY CORTEZ vs. JOSH HINKLE in a welterweight match, while MELISSA MOORE will compete in a special 125-pound female attraction against a yet-to-be named opponent. A ninth bout will take place in the bantamweight division with Team StandAlone’s BRANDON PATT.

What do Frank Mir, Robbie Lawler, Scott Smith Nick Diaz and Benji Radach have in common? They all fought in past IFC shows at Gold Country, a tradition that started back in June 2001. “When you look back on those shows, you’ll see so many of the big MMA stars of today, and the IFC Warriors Challenge series has become a breeding ground for so much talent that makes our sport grow,” said Smith.

The nine bout fight card starts at 4:00 PM and tickets start at just $30. Great mixed martial arts cage fights, a night of hot music, smoking hot cage girls, and plenty of action inside the cage and outside on the casino floor – the party is all under one roof at Gold Country Casino on March 27!
