Kimbo Slice will return,
but not against James Toney By Phil Lanides
In
MMA, the rumor mill is as much an institution in the sport as
trainers and cages. And when it comes to Kimbo Slice, those rumors
seem to fly a little more furious than for most.
Squashing rumors to the contrary, Kimbo Slice (4-1) will return to
the cage against Matt Mitrione (1-0), not pro boxer James Toney, as
many have speculated since his signing earlier this week. The
Slice-Toney fight may happen down the road, but for now, Kimbo will
tackle the former NFLer in Mitrione at UFC 113 in Montreal. Slice
will make his pay per view debut (all of his fights thus far have
been on network or cable television) at the event.
Slice was bounced from The Ultimate Fighter season 10 in the first
round by eventual winner Roy Nelson. He followed up his appearance
on the show with a solid if unspectacular win over Houston Alexander
at the season finale. Now, he’ll face Matt Mitrione.
Mitrione made a good showing on TUF, where he won his first fight
but lost his second. At the season finale, he beat fellow former
footballer Marcus Jones. His matchup with Slice with be his second
pro fight.
