King
of the Cage returns to HDnet in April; Rosholt to debut and Bobby
Green to defend title
By
Matt Clarmont
Hdnet
will air “Mark Burnett Presents King of the Cage Bad Boys Too” on
Friday, April 16th from the Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan as part
of a partnership between the two companies to air one of the
promotion’s many events on the network each month. Although no
official announcement has been made outside of a Twitter message
from Jake Rosholt (7-2), he expects to take on Jeremy Horn (84-19-5)
in a televised bout on the card.
Also said to be on the card is former heavyweight boxer Ray Mercer
(1-0) in a match with super heavyweight Ron Sparks (5-0), both
returning to MMA action for the first time since June of 2009. The
matchup was confirmed by Ron Sparks’ manager, Steve Rusich on
Monday.
I have also learned that reigning King of the Cage junior
welterweight champ Bobby Green (13-3) is being discussed to take
part in the show, though that is just one of many offers the fighter
has been made for his next fight including a fourth championship
opportunity at Respect in the Cage 4 and either a 160 pound title
defense or a drop down to 155 for a title challenge in a May King of
the Cage. He would take on Daron Cruickshank (2-0), a Michigan
native if that bout were to happen.
With each televised Hdnet card outdoing its predecessor thus far,
King of the Cage seems poised to make a stand as a major player in
mid-level mixed martials arts going forward. An ever deepening
roster coupled with rumors of a big-time reality show resembling
UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter” in the works promises to take this
company from the underground to near the forefront of televised
productions. Only time will tell how they will fare in this
endeavor, but the outlook is looking bright thus far.
The rumored fight card for the third installment of KOTC on Hdnet is
listed below:
Jake Rosholt vs, Jeremy Horn
Ray Mercer vs. Ron Sparks
Joe Doerksen vs. Chad Herrick
David Shepherd vs. Dom O'Grady
Junior welterweight championship
Bobby Green vs. Daron Cruikshank
Ben Lagman vs. Angelo Popofski
