If you don’t know who Michelle Ould, the November 2010 MMA-KO Babe
of the Month is now, chances are you will soon. While her
qualifications for Babe of the Month are obvious and undeniable,
Michelle is definitely not just another pretty face.
Michelle (4-3 with 1 no contest), already well known in the close
knit community of Women’s MMA, is one of sixteen female fighters who
are featured on Ultimate Women’s Challenge, a reality television
series which aims to show the fighters and MMA in a positive light
while focusing attention on a social cause or charity. The fighters
compete in challenges which incorporate a cause or charity as part
of the challenge. The show is awaiting release. Check out
www.ultimatewomenchallenge.com for more information.
Originally from Anaheim, California, Michelle, 28, who was something
of a bully in school, developed a love of sports early in life, and
as a boxer, training and working out have been an important part of
her routine for many years. She began training and competing in MMA
in Boise, Idaho in 2007 when, after a male friend began fighting,
Michelle decided “If he can do it, I can do it.” She began with
Jiu-Jitsu and currently holds a blue belt in Gi under Fabio Prado.
Her
feisty, “can do” attitude serves her well in her busy life. Besides
her MMA career, Michelle is a single Mom, with two young sons who
appear to be following in their Mom’s footsteps. With Mom’s
encouragement, they are becoming proficient in wrestling and
Jiu-Jitsu themselves. Michelle continues to work towards a Business
degree, with a vision of “opening her own school that encompasses
MMA, all of its disciplines, and reaches out to families, women, and
children.”
Michelle fights at 125 lbs. and has been training at Ultimate
Fitness in Sacramento, California. Sidelined with a fractured ankle
last May, she is currently in the process of moving to Temecula,
California to train at Dan Henderson’s gym.
Among Michelle’s accomplishments in grappling are Naga, Las Vegas
Intermediate and Advanced, 1st place, 2009; Grappler’s Quest 2009
Las Vegas World Series, Silver Medal; Blood Brother’s Annual No-Gi
Tournament, 1st place women’s division.
When asked if she had any final thoughts, Michelle simply said she
would like to thank her coach and training partner, Tonya Evinger,
and that she loves her kids.
While Women’s MMA may not be ready to challenge the men yet,
Michelle tries to encourage and support other female MMA fighters.
She hopes that at some point Women’s MMA will find a home so that
they don’t have to travel all over looking for fights, but in order
for that to occur, more women must become fighters, joining the
small but dedicated group of elite athletes, who like Michelle Ould,
are certainly more than “just another pretty face.”
