MMA-KO Hall of Famer
Jaime "El Cucui" Jara
By MMA-KO's Writer Art Rodriguez/ Leif Carlson
It
was May 9th in Stockton California, and Mixed Martial Arts history
had just been made. By defeating Steve Heath via Technical Knockout
in the third, Jamie Jara won the PureCombat Middleweight title
making him a five time champion. Jaime Jara also became the first
fighter to win a championship in four separate weight divisions.
Jamie Jara is a 41 year old fighter who has
experienced a long and successful career. He has battled such MMA
notables as former UFC light heavyweight champion “Sugar” Rashad
Evans, Strikeforce contender Scott Smith Steve Heath and former WEC
Light Heavyweight Champion Doug “The Rhino” Marshall. With a total
of 33 fights, Mr. Jara has 25 wins, 7 losses and 1 No Contest.
In 1969 Jaime Jara was born in North Highlands,
California. His father was the wrestling coach at Rio Linda high
where Jamie attended. In his senior year, Mr. Jara fought his way to
a 56-1 record, placing 2nd in the California High school state
wrestling championships. After high school, Jaime furthered his
combat education by taking martial arts and earning a black belt. He
has been a professional MMA fighter since 2002, and is still
actively competing. “El Cucui” meaning “The Boogeyman” was the
nickname his father gave him. Mr. Jara tends to “scare a lot of
people” he told one interviewer, and the nickname just seems to fit.
Jara’s fighting style is not easily comparable to
most other renowned fighters. “I think I’ve got my own style. I’m a
little more unorthodox than most” said Mr. Jara in an interview with
Kodiak MMA. His stand up is very clean and effective, with knock-out
power in both hands, and a good boxing style defense. He is always
active on the ground, always posing a threat and looking to finish.
Never out of condition for a fight, and with an experienced and
focused attitude, Jaime Jara continues fighting with determination
rivaled only by the Terminator.
Mr.
Jara has fought his way into cage fighting history. The man who
defeated four champions in four weight classes, and currently holds
the PureCombat Middleweight title, is being inducted into a hall of
fame. On March 12, 2010 at 6:00 pm in the Sacramento Radisson Hotel,
Coaching Kids MMA and CK promotions Presents Amateur Full Contact
Mixed Martial Arts. At this event Jaime Jara will become the first
inductee into the MMA-KO’s Hall of Fame, and his place in combat
sport history will become solidified.
When asked whom he wanted to thank, Mr. Jara asked
that his fans be acknowledged, his fight team and Mike Rumsey,
Coaching Kids MMA, and of course his many sponsors such as Stealth
Armor, Warrior Wear, and Cassio Werneck Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Jaime Jara recently signed a 6 fight contract, and is
about to make his next assault on the King Of The Cage Middleweight
division, On March 26, 2010 he will be fighting at the “Silver
Legacy” in Reno ,Nevada and will be starting his next path of
destruction. Mr. Jara has, and continues to lead, an inspiring
career especially to young up-and-coming fighters. “Just train hard,
and stay on the grind” was Jara’s advice to such individuals; advise
consistent with what we have seen in Jara’s fights and habits. He is
mentally unbreakable, with an unmatched will and a strong jaw; a
master of the grind. This disciplined fighter is about to be bad
news for anyone in the KOTC Middleweight division.
