#9 Bringing the fight back to the Central
Valley with
“HOME TURF”
PureCombat once again brings excitement, intrigue and answers the
question…….who’s the best and badest in the cage that night. On July
25th “The Giant” enters the Central Valley to meet “Warpath” in
nuetral territory and ground zero is the Visalia Convention
Center…UFC Veteran Gan “The Giant” McGee vs Ruben “Warpath”
Villareal…
This fight should be considered bloodcurdling and hair raising as
these two mammoths stand and bang it out. This is sure to be the
fight of the night pitting a UFC & Pride Veteran against an X-1,
Strikeforce and K-1 Veteran. Gan McGee is a The Giant at 6’10”;
weighing 265 lbs. with a record of 13-4 and training with Chuck
Liddell, he is to be respected. Gan will be representing
SloKickboxing which has been his home gym for many years. Fighting
first in the IFC matching fists with the likes of Aaron Brink and
Paul Buentello. Later , the UFC with bouts against Josh Barnett, Tim
Sylvia and UFC, K-1 and Pride fighting superstar, Heath Herring. He
will be a lot to handle for Havuk Sqwod team member Ruben Villareal
…and they don’t call him Warpath for nothing. Warpath, 6’3”, 265 lbs
and with a huge record of 15-14-3 is also “XXL” . Ruben has traveled
all over the world and has a lot of experience with some big
contenders such as the infamous Bas Rutten, Don Frye, Paul Buentello
and Ricco Rodgriguez…. so keep your eyes on this one and expect a
knock out.
There are two Co Main events on the card with all the contenders
being from the Central Valley battle it out on their own Home Turf.
Steve “Dangerous” Ramirez 6-5 re-enters the PureCombat cage after
taking on the Ultimate Fighter Veteran Jason “The Live Wire” Von
Flue at our BackYard Brawl event March 7 at the Tulare International
Agri Center. Steve, fighting out of The Island in Visalia, will meet
2-2 fighter Darvin Wattree coming out of The Underground Fight Club
in Bakersfield and training under Paul Mince. The next Co Main
event, Phil Perez 7-4 who trains at Team Gil in Madera against Jesse
Bowen 5-3; Jesse recently came under the tutelage of Phil “The Pain”
Collins and the Diaz Brothers at Team Stockton; this one is sure to
be a contender for the fight of the night.
July 25th will also play host to a 155 lb., 8 man tournament…with a
twist…. The tournament will be spread out over the next 3 PureCombat
events, the next leg of this tournament being September 12th at the
Tulare Agri Center. In this tournament there will be a fighter
you’ve seen a few times in our cage… he’s made a lasting impression
on us as well as all his opponents, Zach “The Ripper” Trammell.
Zach, 4-1, trains at Elite MMA in Lodi and has Steve “The King of
Stockton” Heath as one of his trainers, the other, his dad who is
big factor in his sons consistant victories. Zach has been matched
with a 3-1 fighter, training with Team Ochoa in Lemoore, Joey
Cabezas; you can’t let his gentle and calm exterior fool you; and
just for the record, three other opponents turned down the
opportunity to fight Joey saying “they were not interested in taking
him on”. Another bout in this tournament is Marc De La Cruz, an
instructor at the Samurai Dojo in Exeter and a Jui Jitsu practioner
is coming to battle a member of Team Rampage, Jason Drake 4-3 a very
tough and scrappy fighter. Also, returning to our cage, Josh Herrick
training with Cleber Luciano and being matched with another one of
Paul Minces guys, Josh McCartney 1-2. Lastly Tony Llamas from Team
Rampage 8-8. Tony has fought some very significant fighters Thomas
Denny and Jamie Varner to name a few. So fighting local favorite
Darren Crisp 6-4, on Darrens Home Turf will be explosive and
unpreditictable. Darren is commited to his fighting career finding
time to travel down to Huntington Beach before every fight to train
with the well known team, Chute Box.. look for him to stand out in
this tournament. We also have one fighter waiting in the wings,
hoping that one of these guys falls off the card. Doug Hunt 4-3,
trains with John Dobson at the Underground.
The undercard has also got some great fights as well with Samurai
Dojo bad boy, Mike Martinez taking on an Independent from
Bakersfield, Palika Drummondo. Anthony Perales 1-1, a new comer from
Team Buhawe will take on Pro Debuter with an amatuer record, Anthony
Oseguera from Dynamic Martial Arts, Modesto. Anthony Vibal 0-1 who
trains with Jason “The Live Wire” Von Flue will also meet a Pro
Debuter out of the Valley Fight Club in Hanford, Tim Denham. Another
guy out of The Island in Visalia is Steven Urias 1-0 putting the
gloves up to 0-1 fighter, training with David Espinosa, James
Johnson. We also have a girl fight scheduled between Team Buhawe
member, Zoila Frausto 1-0 vs TBA. To begin the “festivities”, we
will start out with a Heavy Weight battle between two Pro Debuters;
Ron Carter, training out of the Underground Fight Club; matching
muscle for muscle with Mike Guidry from the Pacific Martial Arts
dojo in Fresno.
