Introducing: Tim "Big
Perm" Persey Article By Phil Lanides
Arguably
the most important championship title in Gladiator Challenge, the
heavyweight belt will be up for grabs at this Saturday’s
“Undisputed” event at Red Hawk Casino. It’s a simple situation where
two men will enter the cage, and one will exit as the Gladiator
Challenge Heavyweight Champion.
One of those challengers will be two-time UFC veteran Wes “The
Soldier” Combs (16-4), a talented, experienced athlete who finishes
fights. His opponent will be Tim “Big Perm” Persey (10-4-1-1), a
veteran of many fight organizations who is also a strong finisher. A
colorful character, Persey’s nickname is a nod to the villain "Big
Worm" from the hit Ice Cube movie, “Friday.” Persey is also a good
friend of current UFC star and former GC competitor Quinton
“Rampage” Jackson, who he trained with early in his career as a
member of Team Oyama in Irvine, California.
“Big Perm” is coming off a draw with fellow Gladiator Challenge
veteran Aaron Hayes. His last bout in GC was five years ago, when he
submitted Rocky Batastini with an Americana keylock. He’s gone
undefeated in seven of his last nine bouts. Persey has also competed
in some top MMA promotions across the world. Respected Japanese
promotion DEEP engaged the services of “Big Perm” last year, and
he’s also showcased his talents in K-1 as well as the now-defunct
EliteXC, where he defeated former GC Heavyweight Champion Bo
Cantrell via knockout. Now, Persey will get the opportunity to
capture the belt himself.
